Highlights

The Vittoriale degli Italiani—a complex of buildings, streets, squares, gardens, waterways, and an open-air theater—built between 1921 and 1938 by order of Gabriele d'Annunzio is one of the most visited museums in Italy. It was built in Gardone Riviera, on the shores of Lake Garda, in memory of the "inimitable life" of the poet-soldier and the exploits of Italians during the First World War.
A vibrant place more than ever, visited every year not only by students and tourists, but also by scholars and intellectuals who browse its archives, and by internationally renowned artists who have graced the open-air stage of its amphitheater, or who have celebrated the Abruzzo poet by donating works of art that today adorn the avenues, squares, and lakeside promenades.

What is included?

  • Museum the Automobile is female
Opened in 2017, the museum recounts d'Annunzio's passion for automobiles as a symbol of modernity, speed, and progress. It displays the poet's historic vehicles, such as the FIAT Tipo 4 with which he triumphantly entered Fiume on September 12, 1919, the Isotta Fraschini Tipo 8B, and the Alfa Romeo 6C 2300 “Soffio di Satana,” along with personal objects, photographs, and period films.

  • Secret D'Annunzio Museum
It collects what until then had remained unknown to the general public because it was locked away in the closets and drawers of the Poet's house.
Opened in 2010 in the spaces beneath the theater, the museum displays personal and intimate items of d'Annunzio and his guests, such as clothing, jewelry, accessories, perfumes, everyday objects, and mementos of his dogs.
